Documentation Procedural Manuals

Support with Spectrum 5 and Accreditation

Join Sarah Brown from Collections Trust for this session exploring Documentation Procedural Manuals.

A manual helps a museum to standardise the capture, recording, safekeeping and use of information about museum collections, and should be a set of evolving instructions describing how your museum carries out the Spectrum 5.0 procedures.

We know that a lot of you are taking the opportunity to update or develop your manuals at the moment.  This session will explore what makes a good procedural manual.  Together we will discuss what they should contain, different formats and how you might create a user friendly document.

This session will support you with Accreditation requirement 5.2, to follow the Spectrum primary documentation procedures.

21 September – Documentation Procedural Manuals
2pm-3.30pm, online

If the booking button isn’t visible the webinar is fully booked.  If you want to join the waiting list email wmmd@ironbridge.org.uk

Revealing Hidden Histories: Sharing the Hidden Stories in Our Museum Collections

Join us for this exciting event where participants in our Revealing Hidden Histories programme talk about the stories that have been revealed about areas of their collections.  Seven museums worked with subject specialists to research objects within their collections.  The work has enabled the museums to find out more about their collections and has uncovered interesting stories and related histories.

Jen Ridding and Rebecca Randle from the Barber Institute of Fine Art will also join us to speak about their programme of decolonising the collections.

This is an ideal opportunity to find out more about how your museum can become involved in the Revealing Hidden Histories project which will be running again as part of the West Midlands Museum Development programme in 2020.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Priority will be given to delegates from non-NPO and non-National museums in the West Midlands which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation.   Maximum of one delegate per organisation.

What’s Eating Your Collections? A two day Integrated Pest Management (IPM) course

Do you know your carpet beetle from your furniture beetle?

Jane Thompson-Webb will lead us through an intensive two days of identifying, managing and preventing the pests that can cause serious, long term and permanent damage to collections.  Delegates will gain confidence in recognising the signs of insect damage to a range of collection types, understand the life cycles and preferred habitats of key museum pests and become equipped with the tools to prevent infestation.  Jane will also cover developments and research into new potential pests and their spread.

Why is this course for you?

This is an in-depth look at IPM and is essential if you have collections that could be at risk from insect or other pests.  If you have previously taken part in the one day course this will be an opportunity to explore the subject more deeply as well as being an excellent refresher.

Delegates must attend both days.
