Museums Change Lives Awards – send in your entry!

The Museums Change Lives Awards are still open for entries this year until midday on 8 September. The Museums Change Lives Awards shine a spotlight on museums making a difference in their communities – winners are showcased at MA Conference in Liverpool in November, and are given a substantial profile in Museums Journal.

There are four awards this year, comprising three institutional awards (Best Museums Change Lives Project Award, Digital Engagement Award and Best Small Museum Project Award) and one individual award (Radical Changemaker Award). You can find out all about these awards, eligibility and how to enter here: https://www.museumsassociation.org/campaigns/museums-change-lives/awards-2021/

It’s an easy process to enter – just a short form summarising the work that you have done and the difference that it has made to your community, so do consider entering a project or piece of work that you have done in the past year.

Covid Support Scheme

The Covid Support Scheme, part of the Museums Association (MA)’s Benevolent Fund, offers grants of £500 to individual members whose finances have been significantly affected by the pandemic.

The MA will also consider granting awards to those working in the sector who have been unable to renew their membership due to their financial circumstances during the pandemic.

The scheme is open for applications now and it has a number of grants to distribute, so if you or a fellow member have been impacted by the pandemic, please ensure that you apply or encourage others to do so.

Priority will be given to those suffering the most hardship, including applicants who have been made redundant during the current period, have little or no savings, or are in freelance and contract work that has been curtailed during this period and support is unavailable or at a very low level.

Application deadline: 10 September

New £1million funding for digital volunteering

New National Lottery funding will boost digital skills in the heritage sector by helping organisations develop digital volunteering opportunities.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s 2020 Digital Attitudes and Skills for Heritage (DASH) survey and report identified an appetite to develop digital skills across the sector, as well as the opportunity for organisations to benefit from ‘at distance’ volunteers.

It found that the sector is calling out for digital innovation to help it move into a more resilient, creative future, and identified an opportunity to create new forms of volunteering to support this.

The £1m National Lottery funding announced through the Digital Skills for Heritage initiative is in response to this. Heritage organisations and partnerships of all sizes across the UK can apply.

Full information of the digital volunteering funding is now available, including details on eligibility and how to apply. Project Enquiry Forms must be submitted by 12 noon on 16 August and full applications by 27 September.
