Garden Host Volunteer, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust
Garden Host Volunteers join Shakespeare Houses Operations team to talk and engage with visitors about the garden, house and site within Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Shakespeare’s Birthplace or Shakespeare’s New Place gardens.
What skills are the museum looking for?
• Good people skills
• Able to talk confidently to both individuals and groups
• Reliable
• Passion to learn and enthusiasm for the museum’s vision
• Flexible in the day to day approach to tours
• Good plant and gardening knowledge or willingness to learn
• Shakespeare and Tudor knowledge or willingness to learn
• Possible previous experience in talks and tours
• Any foreign language skills would be a bonus

Visitor Welcome Volunteer, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust
Visitor Welcome Volunteers join the Shakespeare Houses Operations team to help create a wonderful experience for their global audiences. Volunteers may welcome visitors to the sites, explain the ticket booking process or check visitors tickets as they enter, or engage in conversation with visitors about the Shakespeare family homes including the gardens and wider grounds.
What will they be doing?
● Safely welcoming visitors to the sites
● Explaining the ticket booking process to prospective visitors
● Assisting with checking visitors’ tickets as they enter the sites
● Engaging in conversation with visitors about the sites
● Being within the open areas of the properties to engage with visitors about the garden,
house and site
● Answering any questions visitors may have
● Providing visitors with information about other SBT sites and events (current and
forthcoming)
● Monitoring the safety of the exhibits and visitors
● Assisting in the evacuation of the sites if needed
Schools Workshop Volunteer, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust
School’s Workshop Volunteers contribute to the delivery of established and high quality educational programmes for Primary School children (5-11). This includes setting up and packing away the learning spaces, interacting with teachers and pupils, leading small group work and preparing learning resources.
Skills we are looking for:
• Experience of, or an interest in, working with children
• A desire to bring Shakespeare to life for school groups and visitors to the Trust
• Good people skills with the ability to talk confidently to both individuals & groups from different age groups, varying backgrounds and with a range of needs
• Willingness to learn and share information about Shakespeare and his family homes
• Willingness to undergo training in facilitation, customer service, accessibility and health and safety as appropriate
• Ability to ensure health and safety guidelines are followed and be responsible for their own health and safety
• They may be asked to undertake a DBS check as part of this role
Learning Activity Volunteer, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust
Learning Activity Volunteers assist in running the high quality informal learning activities across the sites. This includes setting up and packing away the informal learning spaces, engaging visitors with the activities on offer, providing visitors with information about current and future activities and events, and encouraging them to provide feedback.
Skills we are looking for:
• Experience of, or an interest in, working with children
• A desire to bring Shakespeare and his family homes to life for visitors
• Good people skills with the ability to talk confidently to both individuals and groups from different age groups, varying backgrounds and with a range of needs. If volunteers can do this in a second language, even better!
• Enthusiasm for delivering craft-based or practical learning activities
• Willingness to learn and share with visitors the points of interest at the Shakespeare family homes
• Willingness to undergo training in facilitation, working with families, customer service, access issues and health and safety as appropriate
• Ability to ensure health and safety guidelines are followed and be responsible for your own health and safety
• Volunteers may be asked to undertake a DBS check as part of this role
Shuttle Driver Volunteer, Compton Verney
Shuttle driver volunteers help Compton Verney to bring the site together and facilitate great experiences for everyone. Working primarily with the Visitor Experience and membership teams, you will help the museum to welcome everyone by driving visitors from the Welcome Centre to the main art gallery. Seeking a Saturday driver from 10am-5pm. Full training will be provided, additional out of hour opportunities will be available.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing a warm friendly welcome, driving visitors to and from the Welcome centre well.
- Engage in conversation with visitors about the art gallery, any events happening and the wider site. Answering questions and providing wayfinding information to encourage people to visit all areas of the site.
- Assisting with welcoming visitors, queues and other Welcome centre tasks when not driving.
- Performing weekly vehicle checks and reporting any issues to Facilities and Operations.
- Regular check ins and radio usage to communicate with the rest of the team.
- Being able to respond quickly to visitor and staff needs across the site, being on hand and ready.
- Following and helping to enforce our policies and procedures.
- Being flexible to completing a wide range of tasks and positively promoting Compton Verney.
Who Compton Verney are looking for:
- Someone who has a full UK valid driving licence with no points or penalties and is a good driver.

Gallery Volunteer, Compton Verney
Gallery volunteers help Compton Verney to bring their spaces to life through welcoming and engage visitors from everywhere, and facilitating great experiences. Working in the Visitor Experience team, you will share the stories and significance of the art collections and exhibitions with others. Delving into the artist world, sharing passion that connects with everyone. 1 day a week commitment, 10am-5pm. Full training will be provided, additional out of hour opportunities will be available.
Responsibilities include:
• Providing a warm friendly welcome to every visitor at the entrance and in the varying gallery and exhibition spaces. Checking tickets when required.
• Engage in conversation with visitors about the art gallery and its pieces, being a visible presence to create experiences everyone will come back to (moderate fitness required due to long periods of standing).
• Answer questions and provide wayfinding information to visitors, ensuring our regulations are followed whilst being a secure presence.
• Regular check ins and radio usage to communicate with the rest of the team. Checking tickets where needed,
• Having a wider knowledge of the site and helping promote when required.
• Following and helping to enforce our policies and procedures.
• Being flexible to completing a wide range of tasks and positively promoting Compton Verney.

Forest School Volunteer, Compton Verney
Forest school volunteers help the museum to deliver an outdoor schools programme that is an integral part of the museum’s childrens offer at Compton Verney. Working with the learning team, volunteers will support in the preparation, hosting and take down of children’s sessions in the outdoor forest school area. Full training will be provided, DBS check and safeguarding may be required, alongside additional hours during busy term time period.
- Providing a warm friendly welcome to everyone, especially children of all ages and abilities.
- Help to prepare resources and support the organisation and hosting of this activity programme. Including set up and take down.
- Support hosting and take down for the forest school activity sessions, making sure this space is equipped and safe for everyone to learn and enjoy.
- Help to maintain this space generally, specifically around the supervision of the campfire area.
- Having a wider knowledge of the site and the learning opportunities, and helping promote when required.
- Following and helping to enforce our policies and procedures to everyone at all times.
- Being flexible to completing a wide range of tasks in all weather conditions.

Environmental Engagement Volunteer, Compton Verney
Environmental engagement volunteers help Compton Verney to re-connect audiences with everything the environment and nature at Compton Verney can provide through helping to prepare and host the engaging event programme. Working closely with the Environmental Science Producer, you will help share this knowledge through assisting with event delivery in the grounds to people of all ages. Full training will be provided, additional out of hours opportunities will be available.
Responsibilities include:
• Providing a warm friendly welcome to everyone whilst helping to prepare and host an engaging and inclusive programme.
• Bringing events to life through helping everyone to get involved with the activity, enabling understanding and enjoyment of the event theme whilst providing wayfinding information.
• Support the grounds team in preparing the environment for events (specifically our forest school site)
• Preparing and checking materials for our Nature Explorer backpacks and our pond dipping area
• Keeping connected with the team by using radios effectively during events.
• Capturing and sharing digital content from the activity program and wildlife photography
• Having a wider knowledge of the site and helping promote when required.
• Following and helping to enforce our policies and procedures.
• Being flexible to completing a wide range of tasks and positively promoting Compton Verney.

Museum Guide
Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum (Royal Warwickshire), Warwick
The museum are seeking a volunteer to help front-of-house. The volunteer Museum Guide is at the heart of the museum on the first floor. They can make all the difference in ensuring an enjoyable and memorable visitor experience.
What you can expect from the museum:
- Invaluable general museum experience, ideal for a future career in the field
- Scope to develop good customer service skills
- The opportunity to learn how to research historical enquiries
- Induction and in-house training. Possible relevant external training
- Support from museum staff
- Basic travel expenses
What the role entails:
- Playing a front-of house role, welcoming visitors to the museum
- Helping answer enquiries from visitors
- Selling items from the shop and helping with the invigilation of the galleries
This role will suit people who:
- Are friendly and outgoing, with good communication skills
- Flexible and willing to develop new skills
- Have an interest in history, museums and the heritage sector
- Enjoys being part of a small friendly team
Miscellaneous:
Hours of volunteering to be agreed, but usually half or a full day when required. The museum core days are Tuesday to Saturday.
