An Introduction to Accounting and Financial Management for Small Charities

Do you want to feel more confident about accounting and finance?

This workshop is for anyone involved in their organisation’s accounting – whether that’s Trustees, managers, staff or volunteers.

The aim is to ensure you understand what the requirements are for your charity, as well as help explain some of the jargon and offer some practical tips – ideally to help avoid large accountancy costs!

The workshop will cover:

A minimal level of prior knowledge or experience is assumed. Clair Moelwyn-Williams will offer some real-life examples of best practice, as well as handy examples of where things can go wrong. With a maximum of 10 delegates there will be time for discussion and support.

This is the first of two sessions delivered by Clair on accounting and financial management. Details of the second, Advanced Accounting and Financial Management for Small Charities, on 17 March can be found here. Each session is designed as a stand alone workshop so you can choose to attend either or both.

Clair Moelwyn-Williams FCA is a chartered accountant with a demonstrated history of working in the accounting and audit industry, specialising in the charity, social enterprise and not-for-profit sector.

No more than one delegate per organisation. Priority will be given to delegates from non-NPO and non-National museums in the West Midlands which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation.

The webinar will be live captioned by MyClearText, through StageText.

All participants will receive an email containing a Zoom link to the training prior to the event. If you have not received an email by the day of the webinar please contact us. Don’t worry; you don’t need a Zoom account, simply follow the link provided and enter the password.

Chairing Online Board Meetings

Have your board meetings moved online?

You’ve probably found that chairing an effective digital meeting is very different to the face-to-face meetings we’re all used to.

The session will provide practical advice on how to chair formal governance meetings using Zoom and similar videoconferencing platforms.  You will have the opportunity to discuss good practice and share experiences of effective (and less effective) virtual meetings.

This session will begin with a presentation from Simon Wilson. There will be time for you to ask questions, share your own learning and experiences and to hear from others.

Simon is Chair of Trustees at Relate, the UK’s largest provider of relationship support.  He also chairs the board of New Outlook, a housing association specialising in supporting people with sight loss.   Simon is founder director of Wilson Sherriff, a consultancy business that specialises in facilitation, and for more than ten years has supported organisations seeking to collaborate virtually.

Before you book a place, please ensure that you are eligible for Association of Chairs membership.

Following the webinar, all delegates will automatically receive one year’s free membership to Association of Chairs.   Once you book your place on the webinar, a member of the WMMD team will be in touch to discuss your membership.

No more than one delegate per organisation.  Priority will be given to delegates from non-NPO and non-National museums in the West Midlands which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation.
